Reading: This week, we finished our class read aloud of The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane. We had great conversations about the text as we read this novel. Next week, students will create a one-pager reflection, focusing on what they enjoyed, their personal connections, predictions they made, major and minor characters, and the lesson of the story.
Students also continued reading novels in their small reading groups. A few groups have finished their first novel and moved onto a new one.

- I can demonstrate how speaking clarifies understandings.
- I can use appropriate volume, intonation, phrasing, and pausing when presenting.
Math
Students continued developing their understanding of area. After calculating the area of rectangles, they determined that finding the area is like looking at an array. Then, they discovered that there is a more efficient way to determine the area and it is length x width. They practiced calculating the area of rectangles and also figured out the length of sides when given a specific area.
- I can interpret and express area.
- I can determine the area of rectangles using multiplication.
