September 18th - 22nd

Thank you!

Thank you for attending Meet the Teacher Conferences on Thursday and Friday. It was wonderful to meet you and to learn more about your child.

What Did Students Do?

September 22nd was Treaty 7 Day. Students learned that on this day, Treaty 7 was signed. Throughout the week, students shared their prior knowledge and learned more about the land. First, they fine tuned their understanding of what a treaty is. Then, they looked at a map of Alberta and identified the Treaties and Regions of our province. Next, we said the Land Acknowledgement and discussed its significance. Students recognized that the Land Acknowledgment is "to honour Mother Earth and the original care takers of the land." After discussing the Land Acknowledgement students looked at the significance of the land in their own lives. They created a web exploring their favourite place to be, what they enjoy doing, and who they like to be with on the land. Finally, they identified ways they can take care of the land. After this process, students wrote their own Land Acknowledgements in three paragraphs using a co-created checklist as a guide.
