September 25th - 28th
What Did Students Do?
Students continued their learning around Truth and Reconciliation Week, where we honoured Every Child Matters and Orange Shirt Day. As a class, we read the story When We Were Alone. Then students discussed the different aspects of children's lives that they were not allowed to practice at residential schools. They noted family, clothing, hair, food, and more. Students then shared one in their visual journals through sentences and pictures. Then, students categorized these ideas and filled in the following blank "We want all children's _______ to be respected and appreciated." They shared their idea on a whole class orange shirt that was displayed along with one from every class to complete a school puzzle. Finally, students worked on observing, wondering, and inferring when looking at the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation Week graphic. Students recorded their observations, things they wondered, and ideas they inferred when looking at the design. After, students recorded the meaning behind the graphic.
