November 27th - December 1st
Learning Outcomes:
Mathematics
I can apply place value to decimal numbers.
I can express the value of money in decimals.
What Did Students Do?
Students continued their work with decimal numbers. They applied their understanding of decimal numbers to work with money. They discovered the value of coins and wrote them using decimals and fractions. Next they solved open-ended math problems involving money. Finally, they wrote their own problems with money and "scooted" around the room to solve them.
Questions to Ask Your Child:
-What is the value of a dime? How would you express that as a decimal number?
-If we still used pennies, what would the value of a penny be? How would you write this as a decimal number?
-What is the difference between a penny and dime?
-If we go to the store and you have $12.00 to spend, what combinations of coins and bills could you have?
