Math
  • I can solve problems using addition and subtraction, including problems involving money.
Wellness
  • I can persevere by continuing with a difficult task for a period of time.
Students worked very hard on math problems this week! After looking at pictures of themselves cross country skiing down a hill and attempting tricks on rollerblades, students were reminded that they can take steps to do hard things! They were reminded to focus on this while completing math problems. This week, they certainly took steps to do hard things in math. They demonstrated perseverance and resilience, as well as collaboration. The students worked to solve mild, medium, and spicy problems. They used different strategies to determine their solutions. After solving the problems, students were given time to share how they solved the problems. While listening to their peers, a lot of students had "a-ha" moments where they realized what steps they could take next to more accurately solve the problem. The next day, students worked in groups of three on vertical white boards to solve an open-ended problem involving subtraction.

Questions: How challenging were the mild, medium, and spicy math problems this week? What did you do to solve them?
What did you learn from your peers sharing their strategies?
What would you do differently to solve the problem next time?
Did you persevere through these challenging math tasks?
Why are you proud of yourself?
