Reading
Students continued working on summarizing this week. They focused on being clear and concise while giving the most important parts and a few details of a chapter from the class read aloud. They wrote their first copy, made revisions, and then wrote a second copy. Then, they revisited their checklist and identified which outcomes they are confident with and which ones they would like more help with.
*Students' summaries, checklists, and "I can ...." statements were brought home in their MWAS folders. If they haven't already, be sure to have your child share this work with you!
The grade fours were given a map of the city from the book, The City of Ember. They looked closely at the map and made connections between what they noticed and what they heard in the story.
Learning Outcomes:
- I can summarize, determining key ideas and specific details, logically ordering ideas, and using my own words (paraphrasing).
Possible Questions to Ask Your Child:
- What happened in chapter 3 of The City of Ember?
- What were the most important parts of this chapter?
- What do you predict will happen next?
- What are you enjoying about this story?
