Thank You
**Thank you to our volunteers for joining us on our field trip and helping to make the trip so great! Also, thank you parents for setting your child up for a wonderful day! It was a beautiful day, students learned a lot and asked fantastic questions, and had a really fun time.
Reminders
**Students brought home their MWAS (this week) Folders on Thursday. They shared samples of a math check-in for fractions and a visual journal reflection about their learning from Heritage Park. On these pages, they shared outcomes they feel confident with and outcomes they might like further help with. Please have your child share their work in their folders with you!

Student Quotes About the Field Trip:
- "When we went coal mining, we learned they would keep a bird in there that would sing. If it stopped singing, something bad had happened." AP
- "I learned that the workers on the railroad, not the owners, but the railroad workers, weren't treated very well." AE
- "I enjoyed seeing all the clothing and being able to raise the flag with my group at the NWMP building." CM

- I enjoyed making bannock with my friends and playing the Indigenous games. It was really fun." HL
- I loved seeing the blacksmith and him showing us how he put things in the fire. I thought it was really interesting. When we were looking at our school book, we saw a picture of a blanket and it was in one of the cabins. We also saw similar pictures of the portage." RM
- "My favourite part was going on the carriage ride and seeing the horses." LM
- "My favourite part was being a part of the wedding. We went to the three cottages close to the tipis and the people asked us what grade we were in. We talked about how the fur traders were explorers and the settlers came here to settle." AJ
- "I am grateful for the wedding that we got to be ring bearers in. I learned that when people went to church, men had to take off their hats and women had to put them on." OC
- "We helped in the play to ruin everything in the wedding and it was funny." CP
- "My favourite part was when we got to see the blacksmith because we got to see when he just took it out of the fire and it was bright orange. Then he started banging it with a hammer and flattening it out. He said he had to do it a bunch of times before it got flat. I wonder what tools he used to make the flower petals." EC
- "One of my favourite parts was going to the school because we got to use chalk boards and do a spelling bee. NWMP had control over different things back then. I also learned that at the blacksmith shop, you had to heat up the metal until it was fiery orange so it would be soft like playdough." EH
- "My favourite part was the school house because he had us sing an old song and he told us how students used to get punished. I learned that in the hospital, they used natural resources. They used onions and crushed them up to make people cry if they had something in their eye. They also used dried lilacs to help with a fever." FM
- "My favourite part was making bannock and seeing the blacksmith shop and going to the school." MR
- "My favourite part was seeing the dramatic scenes at the wedding." SM
- "My favourite part was seeing the jail and going in it. I noticed that some of the Indigenous games were the same ones we played at Fort Calgary! I learned that Sam Livingston was an actual person." LG
- "My favourite part was when we got to see the draft horses." CC
- "My favourite part was seeing the dramatic scene at the wedding and panning for gold." BD
- "I liked seeing all the horses." SM
- "I liked seeing the sheep because they were fun and interesting to look at." HO
